Team Jewson not only win British Championships on a regular basis, but also perform with success on the International stage.
Whilst the toughest and largest free sporting event in the world takes place—“the Tour de France”—Team Jewson sent one of its top Junior riders as part of a composite team to compete in the 6 day International “ Junior Tour of Ireland” race
17 yr old Hugh Carthy, the youngest of the teams junior squad, produced the ride of his life, and was one of the stars of the 6 day race.
In the Prologue Time Trial, Hugh finished a brilliant 9th fastest from the 60 riders, just 15 secs. behind the winner
Stage 2 was a disaster for him, due to a very bad bout of stomach ache which resulted him in not eating and drinking throughout the stage , with the net result, that he lost almost 5 minutes to the leaders.
Stage 3 was much better, and he had started to feel much better in him self, with the stage ending in a huge bunch finish, he ended outside the top 20.—but was satisfied in his riding. (more...)
The poor weather over almost all of the weekend made racing tougher than usual but didn't prevent Team Jewson MI Racing from producing some outstanding results. On Saturday Derrick Woodings overcame the wind and rain on the exposed Darley Moor Motor Racing Circuit in Derbyshire to win his age Group at LVRC Darley Moor Circuit Race .
Then on Sunday Pete Smith won round 7 of the MSTINA Jersey Series on a tough course in Hampshire in exactly the same conditions. Pete outsprinted his rivals in what was left of the original bunch which was much depleted by dispirited riders who made an early return to the warmth of the HQ.
Meanwhile near Alcester in Warwickshire, Michele King won the Midlands 10 mile Time Trial Championships on a wet and windy course in 22.16 beating international athlete Ciara Horne (who’s heading out to the Under 23 European Champs next week) into second place. Michele said, 'I'm pleased with the result because I’m in a block of heavy endurance work at the moment so am lacking top end power.' Crikey, what will she do when on top form? (more...)
Coventry based Cycling Team Team Jewson M.I.Racing Thule C.N.P. Kinesis won its 7 th British Cycling Championship this season.
With 2 Team Championships and 1 Individual Cyclo Cross plus 3 Championships on the Track and 1 Mountain Bike when 50 yr old Steve Davies, the 2011 National 50 plus Cyclo Cross Champion, won the British Mountain Bike Championships for riders 50 plus , on the tough circuit in North Yorkshire. Davies won by over 2 mins, from the 2010 Champion and what is more remarkable is that it was only his 3rd ever Mt Bike race.
Davies came back into Cycling 2 seasons ago, after more than 20 yrs out of the sport, and joined up with his old team mate Mick Ives, the Team Director and Owner of Team Jewson-M.I.Racing—Team Boss ,Ives said --"Steve was always a great bike rider and won many races in the early days with Coventry Olympic C C , including the British Junior Cross Champs. I saw what he was capable of in those days, and had no hesitation in offering him a place in my new team when I heard he was back on the bike, because I knew we would soon have another winner in our ranks, and so it has proved. Steve will now continue to ride the Road and Mt bike events during the summer, and then concentrate on retaining his Cyclo Cross title in Jan 2012, with the possibility of a title at the World Championships in America.-possibly with other members of the team."
Team Jewson MI Racing rider Martin Hackley is organising the Two Counties Cycling Challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
There is still time to enter the “Two Counties Challenge Ride” on 21st August as we have not reached our cut off target of 500 and don’t forget kids now go free (we had over 450 entries in the Winter for the Phil Cooke ride you may remember)!! Details of the event are on the website www.challengingtimes.org.uk , If it is your intention to ride then don’t be disappointed by leaving it late as we are having to stop taking entries when we reach the 500 cut-off and if you enter after 14th August (if places are still available) it will cost £2.00 more (i.e. £12.00 as opposed to £10.00). Entries can be completed on-line ( www.challengingtimes.org.uk ) or by sending in the pre-printed race entry form which are available in most Warwickshire and Northamptonshire bike shops or by contacting me on 01788-810212. Despite the absence of Team Boss Mick Ives who was taking a well earned continental holiday with wife following the Tour De France (I bet she was pleased), the remaining members of the squad produced excellent results in tricky weather conditions. On Saturday in the Coventry CC 10 mile time trial Barrie Mitchell confirmed his return to top form with an excellent 22 mins 40 secs closely followed by team-mate Martin Hackley in 23 mins 33 secs. Next day Martin scored an excellent win in his age group in the LVRC Mid-Shropshire Wheelers Circuit Race at Shrewsbury; he was aggressive throughout the race and crashed on a tricky hairpin so his win was an outstanding achievement.
John Stephenson travelled south to Essex for the Percy Stallard National Series and finished an excellent 5th in a very strong field. This high placing means that John is now equal leader in the season-long National series.
Meanwhile, up North in the Clifton CC road race near Beverley, Jack Watson and Derrick Woodings raced 4 laps of a very tough circuit. Both missed the main break of four riders but were in a chasing group of seven which whittled down to five. Derrick led Jack out up the finishing hill for Jack to finish 5th in the race but 1st in his age group with Derrick a close second; a super result for the pair and a good weekend for Team Jewson MI Racing.
Michelle King, who rides for Coventry based Team Jewson—M.I.Racing, proved once again, that she is without doubt the "Queen" of Midland Time Trials, and one of the very best in the U.K.
Michelle is the current Rudy Project National Time Trial Champion, and holder of many course and event records up and down the country, and on Saturday evening, set another course and event record, when winning the Leamington C and A.C. Open 10 ml Time Trial on the Fosse Way, Nr Offchurch, Warwickshire, with the incredibly fast time of 22 mins 22 secs
After finishing 5th in both the recent British 10 ml and 25 ml Championships, Michelle was taken ill with some sort of Bug, and had to stop Cycling for 2 weeks, Saturdays event was her first race in 4 weeks and she certainly proved that she is back on form, her next targets will be to win the Midlands Championship and retain the Rudy Project Championship.
Team Boss and Veteran World Champion, Mick Ives (Baginton), defied his 71 yrs of age, when he won the 70+ section in Belper R.C. 25 ml Time Trial nr Derby on Saturday, with a time of 57 mins 58 secs--recording his fastest time at the distance for 49 yrs, (way back in 1962 he set a new course and event record in the Lichfield 25 ml event with a 56 min ride) his latest time is the fastest ever recorded by a 70 yr old Coventry area rider. Ives is the current British Cycling 70+ Time Trial champion, and defends his title in September, having won the 60 + and 70+ Championships, 7 times in past 8 seasons. (more...)
M.I. Racing was formed in 1997 by Mick Ives, and has been one of the U.K.'s most successful Cycling racing Teams ever since. During that period, the Team has won over 1,000 races, all over the U.K. and mainland Europe.
The Team competes in all types of Cycle Racing; Road Racing, Track, Time Trials, Triathlons and Cyclo Cross. From January 1st to December 31st (unlike most teams, who only compete for about 6 months of the year).
The Teams youngest racing member is 16 years old, its oldest is 75 years old. We have 3 Triathletes who represented Great Britain in the last 2 seasons. We have a crack junior Squad of 4 riders. The top veteran road team in the UK and top veteran cross team in the UK.
We promote events to the highest level - how many teams can quote these fact?
