Another win for Twelves

Mike Twelves (Hinckley) riding his first full season for 23 yrs, gained yet another victory, this time at the Milton Keynes Bowl circuit on Tuesday evening. The former International rider who finished 6th in the Milk Race Tour of Britain, when riding for Gt Britain Team broke clear at half distance, to be joined later by 2 riders from a younger group, they only stayed with him for 4 laps, and then he left them to win on his own On Sunday Twelves finished 3rd in the race for riders 45yrs and older in the North Bucks 36 ml road race Nr Towcester, and then rode back home as extra training. Also at the North Bucks race, Martin Hackley (Dunchurch) finished 2nd in the race for riders 60 and over and team mate Derrick Woodings was 3rd in race for riders 70+ both over distance of 30 miles. Mick Ives (Baginton) won his age group 70+ in the Severn Valley Velo 10 ml. Time Trial Nr Alcester, and the youngest member of Team Jewson, Joe Harris, won the Junior raceIt was Harris’s 4 Time Trial victory in as many rides. Mountain Bike rider Tim Stowe (Wellesbourne) showed the teams colours with distinction once more when he finished a brilliant 3rd in the final round of the British Mountain Bike Nat series for Veterans, at Langdon Hills EssexTim had fought his way up to 2nd place at half distance, but dropped back to 3rd after a bout of crampIt was his final Mt Bike event of the seasonand after a short break, will prepare for the forthcoming Cyclo Cross season....

Ives back with a Bang

73 yr old Mick Ives (Baginton), was back at his best on Sunday, when he won the 70+ race as part of Rd 5 of the Percy Stallard National Road Race series, on the tough Milbury circuit near Winchester. Riding with riders up to 13 yrs younger, the Team Jewson M.I.Racing boss, attacked and went off on a solo ride after just 12 miles of the 56 mile race, later to be joined by 12 other, inc. his team mate Martin Hackley (Dunchurch), this group were never to be seen again by the main field of 40 riders. Hackley punctured with 14 miles to go and retired. Ives has now extended his lead in the National series, which he has won 4 times before, and the next round will be in Scarborough on 9th Sept. With the final, 1 week later at Huntingdon. Hackley despite gaining no points this time, still retains 3rd place overall. The tough Milbury circuit is a favourite one for Ives, it was here in 2005 that he won the British Road Race Championships, by over 8 mins, so it holds fond memories. In the 64 mile race for 55yr olds and over John French kept Team Jewson to the fore, with a strong ride for 3rd place, and retains his 3rd place overall. And in the 72 mile race for riders over 40, Mike Twelves (Hinckley) finished 4th, and has now moved into 3rd place overall, 1 place behind 3 times winner and team mate Jon Stevenson (Warwick), who was away in Spain on holiday. Earlier in the week Twelves (Hinckley had won the Milton Keynes...

Tims on fire

Wellesbourne Garage owner and part Time Fireman Tim Stowe, who races for the elite squad of Team Jewson M.I.Racing Thule, has certainly been “on fire” during the current Mountain Bike season, with very high places in major events up and down the U.K., inc 6th place in the recent British Veteran Championships. It is now confirmed that Tim has won the Midland Summer series for 2012, with one counting event still to be contested, such is the lead in points he has established. Tim is a former British Down Hill Mountain Bike Champion, is a member of the current Veteran Cyclo Cross National Team Champions and will be helping his team to more championship performances in the months to come. Team Director Mick Ives said “Tim is a great competitor, and brings class and skills to the sport, developed in his younger days as one of the U.K.’s top Motor Cross riders, he has been a member of the M.I.Racing team for over a decade and provided the Team with some exceptional victories. Super Sam

Coventry based Team Jewson M.I.Racing Thule have several top Triathletes in their squad and it was Coventry’s Samantha Anderson who has been hitting the head lines during the past few weeks, with some amazing performances. Competing in the Bedford Triathlon, which was a qualifying event for Gt. Britain squad for 2013 European Championships in Turkey next June Samantha finished the swimming discipline in 2nd position, and kept that place after the Cycle ride, but suffering from bouts of cramp she dropped back to 4th place at the end of the running section. Still a brilliant performance which has now qualified her for the Championships next year, in doing so she beat the European Silver Medallist, in a very tough field of athletes. This was followed by the Tenbury Wells 10 km Run where she finished 3rd Lady using the event as training. This weekend Samantha competed in the Grafton Water Olympic Triathlon, which she won in brilliant style. Fastest in the swim, fastest on the bike and not only winning the ladies race, but finishing 24th overall, out of the 180 athletes. A really impressive performance and good form for the forthcoming European Champs in Nancy, France. Samantha has also finished 3rd in the season long Midland Ladies Time Trial Championships, and 2nd in the improvement table, which ended this week. Samantha is also a member of the Rugby Triathlon...
