City Team win 2 more National Cycling Championships

Coventry’s Elite Cycling Team –“Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe” clinched 2 more National Cycling Championships at the weekend, thanks to two of their oldest members. Team Boss–75 year old, Mick Ives from Baginton near Coventry, won his 81st British Cycling Championship, and 67 year old, Barrie Mitchell from Marton won his 20th British Cycling Championship, when they competed in the new British Time Trials Closed Circuit Championships held at Thruxton Motor Racing circuit in Hampshire, last Sunday. The new Championship attracted riders from all over the U.K. and was won by an Ex Team Jewson–M.I.Racing rider, and former British Junior Champion, 20 year old Josh Teasdale–who has been racing on the Professional circuit in Belgium for the past 3 seasons.  His first season with a Belgium Pro Team, was arranged by Mick Ives. The very exposed circuit, was even tougher by very strong winds and a damp surface.  Both Ives and Mitchell competed the race without any problems, but Ives managed to crash whilst warming up .  This was the last Road event of the season for both riders–Mitchell will now focus on Cyclo Cross races, including the World Masters Championships in Switzerland in January, whilst Ives will be having a back operation in the next few weeks – a problem that has never been right since crashing through the fencing in the World Masters Cyclo Cross Championships in Louisville, Kentuckey U.S.A. in January 2012, whilst fighting for first place, on deep rutted frozen ground, made worse by overnight snow.  Although Ives eventually recovered to fight his way back to the Silver Medal place he has had back problems ever since. Roach wins for Team Jewson

Coventry based Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe got off to a cracking start to the British Cyclo Cross Trophy series , when their National Champion Phil Roach ( Rugby ) , was a convincing winner of Round 1 at Shrewsbury.   Roach was clearly in devastating form and out to prove that his National Championship victory at Derby in January was no fluke.  Attacking and leading from the start, he fell 3 times on the first lap, slipping on greasy corners by going too fast, and dropped back to 5th place but once he had mastered the conditions he tore through the field to take victory by over 30 seconds from former British Senior Champion and Ex Professional  Chris Young.  Roach now leads the 2014...

Team Mate John Stevenson from Warwick , has played a big Part in Mike’s success, and again on Sunday John attacked early in the 56 mile race, taking several riders clear, soon after Mike bridged the gap, exactly as planned and they were never seen by the main field again–in the sprint for the line, Stevenson , gave Mike a perfect lead...
