Success for Coventry’s M.I.Race Team

The latest round in the Midland Cyclo Cross series , took place at Mallory Park Race Circuit on Sunday—on a fine but cold day, with more success for local team –“Team Jewson—M.I.Racing—Polypipe—McCann—“

One of the last chances for the teams Veteran riders to test their form , prior to the British Championships at Peel Park Bradford , the 2nd weekend in the New Year—where they will make a very strong bid to win back the Team Championships in the 50 plus event.

On Sunday –Kirby Bennett was the highest placed team rider in the 50+ race—Kirby lives only 4 miles from the circuit, so very much on home ground—-he won the 55+ race and finished 2nd in the over 50 race—Team mate Ian Wright was 2nd in the 55+ and 4th overall—Coventry member Peter Busby, finished 3rd  over 50 rider—following a long chase to get back to the leaders , after a chain derailment.—Former World Champion –Phil Roach , riding for the first time in 2 weeks , following a very bad cold, finished 5th best over 55 rider, .

Coventry’s Mick Ives , who has set new British Records for Cyclo Cross , by just completing his 60th season without a break—no one in the history of the sport has ever achieved that—77yr old Ives won the over 75 section, in the process.

—Already a winner of 8 World Masters Cycling Championships , the Ex Professional , hopes to extend his tally of British Championships to 79 , when he competes in the LVRC National Championships at the Adventure Park , Warwick on Wednesday 28th December—again , an all time record.—On Boxing Day , he switches roles and will do the Commentary at the Kenilworth event for the 43rd time –Ives was a past winner of the race when riding as a Professional for Team Bantel, back in the late 60’s.
